This manual is organized so that, whenever possible, when a change has been made within a model year, the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the first vehicle with this change is given. The digits you need to know for this parts and service information are taken from the seventeen digit VIN number. If, for example the VIN is WVW=32ZHE000001, you need only nine of the last eleven digits of this number-or, more specifically, the digits 32 E 000001. Your Volkswagen's VIN is found on the left doorjamb and on a plate mounted on the driver's side of the instrument panel padding where the number can be seen through the windshield.
